The 5 Stages of Burnout

Stage 1: Honeymoon Phase

High energy, commitment, and optimism. You may take on extra work willingly. Everything feels manageable.

Stage 2: Onset of Stress

Some days are harder than others. You start noticing stress but can still manage. Minor physical symptoms may appear.

Stage 3: Chronic Stress

Stress is constant. Motivation drops significantly. Physical symptoms worsen. You start feeling cynical about work.

Stage 4: Burnout

Symptoms become critical. It's hard to cope. Physical and mental health significantly impacted. Work feels impossible.

Stage 5: Habitual Burnout

Burnout becomes embedded in your life. Chronic sadness, fatigue. May lead to depression or anxiety disorders.
